BUILDING SYSTEMS ENGINEERING PORTFOLIO - MISSION CRITICAL

West Chester University

PROJECT: Addition to McCormick Hall, Bloomsburg University
LOCATION: Bloomsburg, PA
COMPLETION DATE: August, 2007
SERVICES: Building Systems Engineering

SYNOPSIS:

Addition to the McCormick Hall includes two (2) new state of the art 250 seat lecture halls and two (2) 75 seat classrooms/ computer labs. Arris is providing the design for room acoustics, sound systems, specialty lighting & dimming, video projection/control and information technologies, such as LAN, WAN, a wireless networks.

ACOUSTICAL ANALYSIS: Utilizing 3D modeling we will design ceilings and propose wall treatments to provide intelligible well defined spaces. Provide seating requirements for absorptive characteristics to provide a room that has constant acoustics form empty to full seating conditions. Provide Noise Criteria goals. Provide review of acoustical elements. Where acoustical design impacts walls and ceilings the coordination of these elements will be by the architect. Acoustical work will consist of material and performance specifications which will require inclusion in the general construction specifications.

AUDIO SYSTEM:  Design sound system for program playback as well as speech reinforcement. The ability to record classes will be included but will require some interaction from the instructor. The general sound system operation will be automated and require little or no interaction. Hearing assistance is anticipated and will be coordinated for compatibility with other hearing assistance methods/systems on campus and the needs of the users.

PROJECT: Cabling Infrastructure Upgrade Project
LOCATION: Scranton, PA
COMPLETION DATE: January, 2006
SERVICES: Building Systems Engineering

SYNOPSIS:

Arris Engineering Group has been selected by the PA Department of General Services to perform a major cabling infrastructure upgrade to the Scranton School for the Deaf located in Dunmore, Pa.  The campus style facility includes many historic stone and mortar structures and is completely interconnected through extensive tunnel systems. The availability of new teaching methodologies and technologies has increased the need to distribute information over greater bandwidth media and to have it distributed to students at an increasing number of locations throughout the campus.

Arris will perform an analysis of the subject technologies and design a new media transmission backbone that will provide for the needs of the school through the foreseeable future.  The new cabling system will route to centrally located distribution hubs to be located on each floor of each campus building.  Distribution to the end use points will be included in this project only for a select number of locations.  Additional budget funding is expected to allow the systems to be carried into every office, classroom, recreational space and student dorm room in the future.

Arris will also be responsible for all construction administration services associated with the project implementation and construction.

PROJECT: Borgata Casino
LOCATION: Atlantic Ciy, NJ
COMPLETION DATE: October 2005
SERVICES: Building Systems Engineering - Mission Critical

OVERVIEW: Dual 100KVA UPS Systems For the Network Operations Center

SYNOPSIS:

The project included the design of parallel 100KVA Uninterruptible Power Supplies for the Network Operations Center at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

The UPS System was designed by Arris Engineering Group through the system component distributor Integrated Power Systems, Inc.

Due to technology upgrades, the existing UPS System at the Casino was operating in a constant overload condition. Based upon load study information gathered within the Casino, dual 100KVA UPS units were determined to meet the future requirements of the facility.

Arris completed the field investigation of the existing systems and developed a phasing plan that allowed all network system components to be transferred to the new system without more than a 5 second outage.

The UPS units were fed from separate sources and delivered power through a static transfer switch to two double 200 Amp power distribution cabinets located within the central command center of the Casino.

A complete new grounding scheme was also designed for the Technology Center.
